BRAKING THE MOULD
Since it was founded in 2018, Black Cyclists Network has become one of the fastest growing cycling clubs in the country. Based in London – but with members worldwide and big plans to establish collectives across the UK and further afield – BCN is disrupting cycling for the better: by connecting existing cyclists from Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, and encouraging people of colour – and indeed of all backgrounds – to take up cycling for the first time.
The brains behind the operation is Londoner Mani Arthur, who only took up cycling 12 years ago but has since represented Ghana at the 2019 African Games. Taken aback at the lack of diversity in the sport he had fallen in love with, Arthur set on the idea of a group to provide cyclists of colour with the resources and sense of community he wished he had when he first got into the sport.
