    Letter that can denote many things, including ‘motorway’ and ‘manual’. Also the lone letter used in the name of Malcolm Wilson’s rally team, M-Sport. It’s short for Malcolm. So there’s a rally team called Malcolm Sport.

    M Sport

    More aggressive trim level for BMWs, bouncing off the reputation of the company’s M division. Although the M there originally stood for motorsport, so that trim level you’ve just persuaded your fleet manager to let you have on your new 3-series is the Motorsport Sport package.

    MacPherson strut

    Simple, cheap and effective suspension design created by Chevrolet engineer Earle S MacPherson, based around a lower wishbone and a strut carrying a spring and damper.     Magnesium

    Structural metal used as an alloy in car design for its high strength-to-weight ratio. Can be hard to work with, hence the magnesium roof on the Porsche 991 GT3
