THE KW#100 FOIL GUIDE
ARMSTRONG
This New Zealand based foil brand, brainchild of Kiwi waterman Armie Armstrong, has been growing a dedicated following in SUP foil and surf foil circles and have moved over into kiting with renowned ripper Reo Stevens now riding their gear. For kitefoiling the CF 800 or CF 1200 wings teed up with their 85cm mast and the TC60 fuselage are the business.
Armstrong’s smallest profile wing – the CF800 - is designed for maximum stability even at higher speeds and is perfect for kitefoiling or surf / SUP-foiling in bigger waves. The CF1200 is bigger and better suited for lightwind and pumping hard in small, rolling swells.
Construction is based around a high-density foam core, which is encapsulated in Aramid cloth before being wrapped with 100% High Modulus Carbon and their foils come with a 12 month warranty on materials and manufacturing.
The new V2 fully tapered one-piece masts are strong and stiff but with consistent reactive flex and responsiveness in all water states. Titanium fixings deliver a rock solid connection between the mast and board and their fuselages feature a robust titanium core.
AIRUSH
Airush have a surf-influenced range that leans more towards the freeride / wave end of the foiling spectrum.
Featuring the same durable construction as some Airush surfboards, the Progression board is designed for first time foilers up to advanced freeriders. A narrower tail helps you edge aggressively into the wind, while the added width upfront means you won’t bury the nose each time you touch down. This board is also compatible with most foils, thanks to a double box system.
The Carving Foil is reliable for those in the early stages of foiling and you can configure the rear ‘X-wing’ with the tips up or down to increase manoeuvrabilty or stability, depending on your level /
