When football returned in much of Western Europe last May and June, the priority was clear: get it done. Get through the season in whatever form was possible, both to avert financial meltdown and to offer at least something for the public to watch. But as this season has gone on, the cycle of two games almost every week for Premier League clubs has very clearly taken its toll – and that has major implications for the Euros.
