sister act

From breaking the world record for the longest unicycle journey, to taking out top honours on Dancing with the Stars, actor Samuel Johnson has put his body – and career – on the line for breast cancer research. Still, the sacrifices he has made are nothing compared to the tens of thousands of Australians touched by cancer every year.

Samuel’s mission to vanquish cancer is a very personal one. In 2010, his sister Connie was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer at the age of 33 – her third diagnosis following a bone tumour in her leg at 11 and a tumour in her womb at 22. Two years later, the pair established Love Your Sister, a charity focused on raising funds for scientific research and spreading awareness of early detection.

Connie passed away in 2017, mere days after she and Samuel were both awarded the Order of Australia Medal for their work. Continuing on in Connie’s memory, the and doubled down, putting his acting career on hold to devote himself completely to the charity.
