‘Electrostars’
WHEN looking into modelling any of the ‘Electrostar’ family of electric multiple units (EMU), the wide scope for commercial models of the Adtranz/Bombardier ‘standard’ platform EMU becomes apparent. It is the most numerous type to be built since privatisation of British Rail, with more than 2800 vehicles placed in service between 1999 and 2017.
They are built on a standard platform (common parts will help with model development costs) but with numerous options to suit differing operating requirements, which has resulted in some welcome variety within the fleet.
