We dare not forget the sacrifices made for true liberation
THE shenanigans manifesting themselves in the ANC have been clogging our social and media spaces in the past few weeks, especially on issues surrounding the factional motives of removing criminally charged leaders from their positions on the basis of the controversial, if not questionable, “step-aside” rule.
Although it is propagated to be a mechanism to boost the integrity element in the corruption-infested erstwhile liberation movement (now in political office for 27 years), it is evident that this otherwise noble principle is heavily weaponised in the raging factional battle in the party.
The wisdom of this rule, beyond the pursuit of narrow selfish and factional interests, still has to be realised, at least from the legal or constitutional point of view.
The unpalatable truth is that one faction is abusing the notion of integrity to squeeze the other faction out of their positions in the party and/or government.
A case of power contestation!
