Obituaries

JOE ALTOBELLI, a first baseman and outfielder who played in the major leagues for three seasons with the Indians in 1955 and ’57 and Twins in ’61 before managing the Orioles to a World Series title in 1983, died March 3 in Rochester, N.Y. He was 88.

Altobelli posted a .210/.277/.323 slash line in 257 major league at-bats. In addition
