BENTLEY was founded to make luxury sporting carriages for the well heeled.
After numerous wins at Le Mans in the 1920s, the firm was bought by Rolls-Royce in 1931, and over the next seven decades most Bentleys would be little more than badge-engineered Rollers: ultra-luxurious saloons for the ultra-wealthy.
Never worried about being fashionable, Bentley went its own way with cars that in many ways were an anachronism, so there were many raised eyebrows when it announced in 2013 that it would be introducing an SUV.
