CAREFUL, THEY BITE!

I know what you’re thinking. You’re wondering what electric mountain bikes are doing in a dirtbike mag, but this isn’t the first time, that was nearly seven years ago (see inset top left) and, 45 years ago, we ran a yarn about a monoshock bicycle in our very first issue!

We’ve already tested electric dirtbikes from Alta, Oset, KTM and others but, with international pressure building to phase out petrol engines, it’s appropriate that our 500th issue looks at one of the emerging electric MTB brands, and SEM is the first one that I can think of that is such a mix of moto and MTB.

Since COVID hit, there has been an explosion in MTB tracks and trails and it’s become a lot easier to go for an MTB ride after work than a moto ride. The biggest plus is that they’re quiet and you can ride in places where a moto just can’t due to the noise. They seem to be more acceptable in
