The Government has brought a whole new connotation to the term “bubble and squeak”. Instead of the freedom fry-up people were expecting, it has withheld the trans-Tasman bubble, offering only a squeak of unsatisfactory excuses.
Who could have predicted Australia’s infamous tourism pitch, “So where the bloody hell are you?”, would curdle into a New Zealand-specific taunt. Just as it seems the world may have Covid-19 on the run, a new repressive force is emerging here: bubble-hesitancy.
