KG’S TOP 10 CROPS TO GROW

It was difficult coming up with our top 10 as we think all vegetables are worth growing even if you only get a handful of peas or one sweetcorn cob. They will still be delicious and rewarding, but we think some veg really do give you more ‘bang for your buck’ and fit into all three of the criteria below.

THE THREE CRITERIA…

■ They are very prolific – most years – and offer value for money and for the time invested.

■ They are better than supermarket produce because they’re better value, travel fewer food miles or are fresher and tastier.

■ Relatively easy to grow.

1 MIXED SALAD LEAVES

Pillow packs of salad leaves bought from a supermarket can go off really quickly once opened so growing your own is so much) called Native British Leaves which contains chicory, salad burnet, fennel, mallow, garlic mustard and sheep’s sorrel.
