Itchen for the perfect staycation?

We live in a richly diverse sporting nation. Each issue of Shooting Times is another showcase for sporting variety in this country, and whether it’s walked-up grouse on Lewis or Chinese water deer stalking in Berkshire, every part of Britain has something different to offer the sporting enthusiast.

Over time, certain places have become so bound up in sporting folklore that we make associations of prestige and quality based on geography alone. We assume that the best woodcock shooting takes place in Ireland or Wales, and the finest roebucks are dropped in Wiltshire or Dorset. You might well have enjoyed a day trying for brown trout on a chalkstream but it was all for nothing unless it was on the river Itchen.
