prisoner of the War on Terror, Mohamedou Ould Slahi spent 14 years in US military custody without being charged. He wrote about his incarceration in, the 2015 book that became a bestseller while he was still locked up in the notorious detention centre at the US naval base in Cuba. The book may be the basis for this film, but something has got lost in translation. feels less a personal odyssey than a conventional legal drama and a mild indictment against American treatment of men such as Slahi.
