As journalists we are usually pretty sceptical about anything that has a big bold claim such as ‘complete’ in the title, meaning the book in question then has to work extra hard to pass the additional scrutiny and live up to its extravagant billing. To be brutal, most don’t and those that do tend to be megabucks limited editions coming in diamondencrusted slipcases, or niche labours of love with limited commercial appeal… or interest.

So, all things being relative, a £40 hardback numbering fewer than 250 pages has an awful lot of work to do to win over this cynical and grizzled hack. Luckily it is off to a flying start by having as its subject the marque sired by one of my
