1. SUBWOOFERS

What’s the number one – the very first – audio mod in our book? It has to be a new headunit, right? Wrong! It’s actually two other things: a subwoofer and an amplifier. Here’s why…

For reproduction purposes, audible sound is broken up into four sections. These are treble (5000Hz+), mid-range (5000-400Hz), mid-bass (400-100Hz) and sub-bass (100-20HZ). When music is recorded in a studio, all four of these sections are catered for, and this means that all of them have to be reproduced by their dedicated speakers for you to hear your music as it was originally intended. Now, due to the fact that the speakers (tweeters and drivers) in your Transporter’s doors only have the capability of reproducing the first three sections, if you haven’t got a sub added into the mix, you’re simply not hearing everything. Oh, and because woofers need large, stiff cones to reproduce the soundwaves that we interpret as bass, you’ll need an amplifier just to get them moving. So, now you can see why you need both of these items, but we’ll start off with the subwoofers.
