Despite fears that the event would notmiddle-distance tri saw a mighty 800 racers on 20 February. Competitors set out on a new course with the swim in Glendhu Bay, before a fast five-lap bike leg, finishing with an undulating trail half marathon. Pro competition was fierce with Kyle Smith just edging the victory in a nail-biting finish in 3:50:15, and fellow kiwi Hannah Wells as the women’s winner in 4:24:31.
