A year of challenges and lessons
THE year 2020 started on a high note for the travel industry, with many travellers hoping to catch flights and explore new destinations. But that all changed when coronavirus was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March.
The virus, first identified amid an outbreak of respiratory illness cases in Wuhan City in China in December 2019, later spread to most parts of Asia, Europe and the US. By March 2020, it slowly made its way to Africa and South Africa.
