As a key part of its collaboration with Liebherr for telehandler production, which was announced at the end of 2017, Claas also gained a fleet of loading shovels for the agricultural market. Initial emphasis was on the larger silage clamp building machines. Which comes as no surprise, because there aren't too many British or Irish contractors who haven't priced a Jag forager at some point, so these potential shovel buyers would've already been on Claas’s radar. A little bit further down the size scale is the featured Torion 956 Sinus. Although this is well proven in Liebherr livery, it was a late addition to the Claas UK price list. The 956 is also the largest model with the Sinus double-steering system. More on that later.

Our test Torion 956 had the optional ‘High-Lift’ boom, increasing lift height from 3.72m to 4.01m for an additional £2,155. With an operating weight of just under 10t, this is no ‘mini’ wheeled loader; it's similar in stature to a JCB 413S or Volvo L50H.
Living around the back of the Torion is a 4.5-litre Deere Power System motor rated at 76kW/103hp, which ticked the box for Stage IV using a mix of SCR, DOC and a DPF. In the intervening months since our test, it has morphed into a Stage V compliant motor but still with the same performance stats.
