The Palio

he centuries-old bareback horse races take place twice a year, in the summer, on the 2nd of July and the 16th of August, and attracts thousands of and visitors. Ten of the seventeen take part in each race – the seven that did not take part in the previous July or August race compete by right and the other three are drawn by lot.
