Who Do You Think You Are?

THE GROWTH OF THE SOCIETY SINCE 1911

The Society of Genealogists was founded in 1911 following a call from antiquarians and historians such as Charles Bernau in the journalto form a genealogical society modelled on the Society of Antiquaries. The Society of Genealogists of London was incorporated on 8 May 1911, and in 1924 received permission from the Board of Trade to omit ‘of London’ from its name and hence became a national society. Its first annual report shows 198 persons as the founders and fellows; fellows by election; life fellows; life members; members; associates; and corresponding associates.
