Coventry's Italian Job

ver the weekend of 17-18 July 2021 there will be a chance for Mini owners to pay homage to the 1969 film in Coventry where the famous. The 1969 movie’s iconic drive through the tunnels were filmed in Coventry’s Stoke Aldermoor. Now, 52 years later, the city will witness the car chase where it first took place. For years I’d known the movie had been filmed round the corner from where I lived but there was nothing to show for it, and I couldn’t bear it. So, to cut a long story short, in 2019, 50 years after that classic chase, leading stuntman, Rémy Julienne, came to Coventry to unveil a plaque which marks the spot where you see the Minis go through the tunnel.” Kevin would love it if up to 600 Mini enthusiasts joined him over two days in July to celebrate his town’s involvement in the film. “Thanks to the city council, and others, we’re going to build the exact route, with tunnels, and recreate that epic scene from more than half a century ago. There’ll be a lot of wonderful surprises for those taking part. I kid you not, this really will be a memory that you’ll be sharing with your grandkids. You’ll want to be part of it,” said Kevin.
