The five-year voluntary transition away from lead shot for live quarry shooting was signed by nine leading shooting and rural organisations. They included the Countryside Alliance, the CLA, the National Gamekeepers’ Organisation, the GWCT, Scottish Land & Estates, the Scottish Association for Country Sports, the Moorland Association, the British Game Alliance and BASC.
As the UK’s largest shooting organisation, BASC was singled out by many for being the main contributor to the decision, but this was simply not the case. The joint statement was a collective decision, and one that took many months of deliberation and involved many tough choices.
