Hares have been on a strange decline in Galloway over the past few decades. As the landscape has changed and farming has intensified, it sometimes seems like hares have vanished altogether. The animals become rare in many places, and yet they often remain unexpectedly strong elsewhere. The difference between boom and bust can be determined by little more than a mile or two.
