Hawaii Legislative Session 2021 – Testify Now!

If you boat, fish, hunt and/or gather, this is the season when you need to be on your game. It’s the 2021 Hawai‘i Legislative Session. You must testify for and against bills that affect your ability to gather food. To be heard, you must testify. Your voice and the voices of your ‘ohana are “mission critical.”
It’s simple. First register at the Hawai‘i State Legislature website. Once you are registered, you can login and submit testimony. Enter the bill number. That will take you to the bill page. Then submit testimony. You can keep your testimony short, for example, “I STRONGLY SUPPORT (insert bill number),” or “I STRONGLY OPPOSE (insert bill number).”
Most of these bills will die. Beware of some bills that seem dead but rise like zombies. Full attention is required. Navigating the legislative session is like stalking mouflon sheep on Mauna Kea or fighting a marlin in the ‘Alenuihaha Channel.
It is always a good idea to contact your legislators. Their contacts are listed on the state capitol website. Even your legislator is for a bill, they hear the “no ways, cuz” comments.
