Lots of events in 2020 took me by surprise, as I’m sure they did many people. But one thing that was totally predictable was Google ending free unlimited storage for photos (News, Issue 594, page 9, see screenshot right). Google’s tactic was obvious from day one: get people hooked on free storage, wait a few years until they’re dependent on it, then pull the rug from under their feet by charging.

It’s the kind of strategy you’d expect from an abusive monopoly, not an supposedly benevolent company that apparently wants to spread love, peace, inclusivity and happiness throughout the world (just read their holier-than-thou blog posts to see what I mean).

I’m so sick of Google. Please Computeractive, can you give us more alternatives in 2021?
