Is BT charging too much for universal broadband?

For some frustrated broadband customers, the chances of getting the USO must seem as remote as seeing a UFO. The latter you’ll know about from old sci-fi films and comics. The former often feels just as mysterious: the Universal Service Obligation.

Passed into law in March, the USO gives you the legal right to ask for minimum download speeds of 10Mbps and). If you meet the criteria, BT will examine your property’s location and quote you a fee for installation. Generally, the more remote the home, the more you’ll pay.
