Call of the wild

It might be hours before your first coffee, but Kelly Wilson has been awake since 4.30am. That’s when the 31-year-old horse whisperer and photographer heads to the hills in search of the wild creatures she loves to capture on film, because Kelly often lands her best shots when the sun spills onto the horizon.

“I’m not naturally a morning person, but the horses are more active then and the light is usually breathtaking,” explains Kelly, who has seen more than her fair share of sunrises since she started working on her latest book, Wild Horses of the World, an homage to wild horses and the rugged landscapes they call home.

If the name or that glorious mane of dark hair. The 2015 series followed the exploits of Kelly and her equally horse-mad sisters, Vicki and Amanda, as they helped to tame New Zealand’s wild Kaimanawa horses.
