WILSON AUDIO SPECIALTIES SABRINAX

Wilson Audio Specialties introduced the Sabrina five years ago, as the company’s ‘entry-level’ floorstander, though of course one must bear in mind that what is ‘entry-level’ for Wilson Audio Specialties rises rather above the highest achievements of many other loudspeaker companies.

“Wilson Audio is one of those high-end loudspeaker brands that most people aspire to own one day,” as Nigel Ng from Wilson’s Australian distributor Advance Audio puts it. “Their performance is second to none, and it’s really great to see Daryl Wilson carrying on Dave’s legacy with this new SabrinaX. It’s truly a benchmark product at this price category.”

The concept behind the original Sabrina was to take what had been learned during the development of the company’s then top-of-the-line Alexandria XLF and bring it to a more affordable floorstander. The Sabrina was a similar size to the company’s legendary WATT/Puppy combo but came as a single floorstanding enclosure, its main shell made of high-density fibreboard in the original, with its baffle and the lower spike-board of its base using Wilson’s special rigid, damped, extremely hard ‘X-Material’.

This time around the entire outer enclosure is made from X-Material, with its final finish toleranced to a mere 4/1000th of an inch, meticulously tested with laser vibrometry. So it was this
