THE 2021 ROYAL Rumble was the 34th occurrence of the annual event, one of the “Big Four” pay-per-views WWE runs each year. The event is, of course, named after the celebrated Royal Rumble match: a battle royal with 30 entrants who enter the match at 90-second intervals. For the 34th Royal Rumble, the pre-show held one championship match, while the main show featured a lineup of five matches—a Women’s Royal Rumble match, a Men’s Royal Rumble match, and three championship fights.

Back in August at Payback, Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler captured the WWE Women’s tag team championship from Sasha Banks & Bayley, who, by that time, already had a faltering friendship. After becoming the new champs, Jax and Baszler defended the title three times before losing to Asuka & Charlotte
