    RACHEL, ever eagle-eyed, found an echinoid on our walk this morning. An echinoid is a type of fossilised sea (which means chalk) and our beautiful fossil shared its life in sunlit seas with millions of sponges that have since been formed into flint. Now, those ancient seas are remembered in southern England’s downland.
