TODAY was the last day of foxhunting as I have always known it. I started work at 5.30am and there was a BBC crew here from that time. Peter (Collins, Quorn huntsman) and I were both very upset and on the edge of tears for most of the morning. We walked out down the drive with both of the two packs that were drawn for today.
Peter gave a very emotional interview in the valeting room with the film crew. I had a quick breakfast then went into the valeting room for a drink.
We mounted up and hacked up to Cream Gorse ready for a 9am meet. The visibility was very poor with fog and drizzle. There were hundreds of foot-followers and they all clapped our arrival. There were only about 80 horses at the meet; this was because we were having a three-horse day and people could join in at any
