Craft recordings’ newly launched “Small Batch” series is built around taking everything back to handmade basics. All-analog lacquers drawn from the original master tapes, plated and pressed with what technicians self-explanatorily refer to as the “one-step” process, and then pressed in small quantities to ensure that there’ll be zero wear and tear on the stamper (and, therefore, on the sound quality). Which, to be honest, is something that few labels did even in the good old days.
It’s an intensive process, which means it’s unlikely we’ll ever see a day when all records are made like this. Not when it’s easier to simply grab some digital files and bang
