Shuffling around uncomfortably on my sun lounger, I could feel my thighs sticking together and rubbing.
‘Come in the water, Mummy, it’s lovely,’ my daughter, Georgia, then six, shouted as she splashed around in the swimming pool, her brother Charlie, three, flapping his arms excitedly in his arm bands, with my husband close behind.
‘It’s too cold for me,’ I lied, watching on enviously. I would have loved to join them all in the water, to be the fun mummy they wanted me to be. But I felt far too self-conscious to get up and lower my huge frame into the pool, watched by scores of other families.
