Exploring The “Blip”

There is a classic video clip online of Toto’s synth genius Steve Porcaro teaching synthesis techniques from back in the ‘80s, and he describes his trick of adding a fast pitch transient to the front of his brass sounds, as “the blip”. This has become a timehonored technique and is worth exploring and revisiting even if you already know a little about it.
The Blip
The basic idea is to program a quick swoop from either above or below into the main pitch, using an envelope generator for one of your two (or more) oscillators.
