How Zuma’s defiance splits the ANC

FoRmER President Jacob Zuma has been in the political limelight since the late ’90s, when he emerged from leading the then southern Natal region of the ANC to be elected as the governing party’s deputy president at the mahikeng (mafikeng) elective conference.

His rise to occupy the second most senior position in the party was met with murmurs as some questioned his level of education while others within the party questioned his integrity.
