South Africa is making its mark on the continent

WHEN South Africa assumed the chairmanship of the AU, it unveiled a vision that sought to, inter alia, drive two different but related agendas.

First, to steer continental unity towards the realisation of a prosperous Africa through the operationalisation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Second, to realise the 2013 commitment of the 50th anniversary of the OAU/AU not to bequeath the burden of conflicts to the next generation, by silencing the guns in Africa by 2020.

It also elevated the Women, Peace and Security Agenda
