    1985. Not that long ago. Well, it doesn’t seem like it … That era places me in home-town Wanganui, 24 years old, working as a self-employed car painter by trade, struggling like hell trying to raise three kids, struggling like hell to make ends meet, and wondering what the hell I was going to be when I grew up.

    The only constant at that point in time was cars. By then, immersed in cars in every possible sense, I’d become president of my local hot rod club, the Wanganui Road Rodders. Back then, 35 years ago, hot rodding was still very much a dirty word. It was a very different time compared to today, and hot rodding was a very different hobby to what it is now.
