Mark Blackford joined the Astronomical Society of NSW in 1980 and has enjoyed visual observing for more than 40 years. Recently he has been actively involved in developing and promoting DSLR photometry. He is director of the Variable Stars South group (formerly the Variable Star Section of the Royal Astronomical Society of NZ).
