DA, labour, business lash cut in UIF/Ters funding

THE DA has lambasted the government’s decision to cut the Temporary Employer-Employee Relief Scheme (Ters), saying this will come as a blow to cash-strapped workers who are affected by the Level 3 lockdown.

The party’s shadow minister of Employment and Labour Michael Cardo this week said the decision would affect sectors such as tourism, hospitality and liquor industries.

This comes after the reports that businesses have accused the UIF of backtracking in the discussions over the extension of the Ters wage protection to cover the current lockdown.
