The early noughties were glory days for supercross and motocross. Riders had personalities and spoke their minds, money was in abundant supply, grids were full and the bikes were as flamboyant as some of the riders. It was a great time to be an MX or SX tragic.

One of those flaming-hot rides was the 2003 Kawasaki KX250. With the KX250F joint venture four-stroke ready to hit dealers’ floors, the last of the green smokers was headed for the scrap heap. But before that happened, Ricky Carmichael won the AMA Pro Motocross championship in 2000 and, the following year, took out both the AMA motocross and supercross titles on the same model.
