LAST week we looked at the origins of Western art and how it changed from the Ancient Greeks to the Middle Ages, and then went through a rebirth, or “renaissance”.
The art of the Renaissance was organised, logical and calm. But it wouldn’t stay that way for long because art evolves. When one art movement becomes the main style of the era, another movement arises in reaction to it, moving from one extreme, such as emotion and drama, to the other, such as order and restraint.
