Costs Whether you’re undertaking a large scale remodel or simply looking to tweak the layout of your home, knocking down an internal wall is probably something you’ve already considered — especially if you live in an older property with a floorplan that’s broken up into multiple rooms. Removing internal partitions, either partially or fully, has the potential to revolutionise how you use your living space. Plus, it may create an opportunity to bathe light-locked rooms at the centre of the floorplan with daylight.

There are no hard and fast rules as to which walls are ‘best’ to knock down — your decision should arise from knowing which aspects of your current layout do and don’t fit with your lifestyle. Knocking through to create a contemporary open-plan living space may be perfect for some families, but maintaining separation between cooking and living areas might be better for others. Or perhaps your goal is to create a luxurious master suite
