The thought of a gas-filled mollusc floating around the ocean on its back does not to mind a pretty sight. However, the dragon (Glaucus atlanticus)is a nudibranch with elegance.
Nudibranchs are small, often intensely colourful sea creatures. Hermaphoditic, they produce both long, spiral-shaped eggs and soon lose their larval shell and become part of the “pleuston community that just high seas”, according to research scientist Dr Lisa-ann Gershwin, director of the Australian Stinger Advisory Service.
