A LOT has happened over the past 40 years. The UK has seen seven Prime Ministers and America five Presidents (although North Korea only three generations of the same family of dictators). The introduction of computers has massively changed the way we live and work, facilitated further by the invention of the internet followed by the smartphone. More recently, long beards are no longer just for pirates and social distancing is not just for the socially awkward.

And, during all of this, an American-export Mk 2 has been asleep in storage, quietly waiting for a time when its 3.8-litre XK unit would, once again, be fired. That moment finally arrived in late 2020 when,
