FRANCESCO MOROSINI

Born of a noble Venetian family, Francesco Morosini made his name as a commander during the Cretan War of 1645-69. Although initially successful during this campaign, he was forced to withdrew and return to Venice in defeat. He was accused of treason and put on trial, but later cleared his name.
