izar (Zeta (ς) Ursae Majoris) and Alcor (80 Ursae Majoris), were once used as an eyesight test: if you couldn’t see two stars, you needed spectacles. They are easy to split in binoculars, and these also reveal a fainter (mag. +7.6)
