There’s still uncertainty about former bureaucrat turned politician role in Uttar Pradesh politics, but BJP workers seem to believe he is meant for big things. Since joining the saffron party on January 14, the former MSME secretary has been mobbed by party workers for selfies. Sharma’s popularity comes from the fact that he is seen as someone who has Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ear. The 1988 batch Gujarat cadre officer served with PM Modi for nearly two decades before retiring recently. Sharma will soon enter the UP legislative council, but party workers speculate that he will likely be named minister of a major department in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government.
