OBITUARIES

BARRY MARSHALL

MR MARSHALL died on 14 January after an illness, aged 69.

He was born in 1951 in Bexley, Greater London. He didn’t let coming from a non-horsey family stop his equine ambitions, saving his bus money to buy his first pony and riding bareback until he could afford a saddle.

Mr Marshall was extremely proud to be the first man to receive the Union Flag for dressage, riding Othello, a former show horse no one else could get on with. He rode alongside Jennie Loriston-Clarke who described him as “a stylish rider with plenty of feel for his sensitive horse”.
