THE MAN THEY CALL… COD GOD

WHEN THE WINTER cod arrive on the south bank of the River Humber one angler’s success over recent years stands out above the rest. His name is Phil Deitch, and his exploits have earned him the nickname of the ‘Cod God’. It doesn’t matter what height tide or the weather conditions, he will tackle the muddy estuary and find some fish.

It was back in November when the 42-year-old maintenance engineer landed a fantastic 16lb fish, possibly the biggest shore-caught cod from the river’s south bank since the 1970s.
